Job insecurity is a growing concern in today’s economy, especially among young and marginalized workers. At the heart of this issue lies labor market duality—the divide between stable, well-protected permanent jobs and unstable, low-paying non-regular employment. This structural split not only limits upward mobility but also reinforces cycles of inequality, leaving many trapped in precarious conditions without long-term prospects or protections.

Legal protection for the unemployed is currently not well implemented throughout the country, therefore these people are very vulnerable. Labor market duality is still one of the most prevalent contributing factors to this issue, and policies which contribute to the polarization of regular and non-regular workers are pushed by conglomerate corporations as it is more beneficial, or productive for them to hire non-regular workers over regular workers. regular workers they hire would have higher job security with long-term contracts; receive comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, pensions, paid leave, and severance pay; get paid higher wages; and have better opportunities for training, promotions, and career advancement. On the other hand, non-regular workers would have low job security with only temporary contracts, have no access to such comprehensive benefits, get paid significantly lower wages than that of regular workers, and have fewer opportunities for career progression

This wasn't limited only to conglomerate corporations: employers in general use non-regular workers to reduce labor costs, and as companies need the flexibility to adjust their workforce in response to market demands and economic fluctuations, non-regular workers are easier to hire and fire as they need, contrary to regular workers who are costly to even let go, much less bring in. They would be exploiting the desperation people have from the desire to find stable employment by only offering temporary occupations as non-regular workers to them, using the excuse that they do not have enough merit or are qualified enough to be offered a job as a regular worker, so that they can keep labor costs low and maximize profit, which has always been a primary goal for all businesses.

This tattoo depicts an angel, suggestive of Archangel Michael, thrusting down a spear at the skeleton reaching up a hand for help. The angel is symbolic of the glorified, prestigious regular workers who have secured their stable employment, while the emaciated skeleton depicts the non-regular working class, haggard from their deprivation of their most basic benefits. The regular working class widens the gap and consolidates the barrier between the two antithetical classes to maintain their benefits at the expense of those who are left to suffer at the base of the pyramid. The visual hierarchy depicts the stratified nature of the employment fields between regular and non-regular workers, an encapsulation of the nature of labor market duality.

This tattoo serves as a reminder of how we must work towards making quality and  stable employment available for all.
